Josh Brookes is set to add the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance event to his busy 2013 schedule after being called up to ride with Yoshimura Suzuki.

The Australian racer is currently embroiled in a fight for the British Superbike Championship title, but has already earned plaudits this year for his maiden outing at the Isle of Man TT, the Australian becoming the fastest-ever newcomer to lap the Mountain Course.

Now Brookes will make the trip to Japan to take part in the legendary 8 hour race, where he will bid to return Suzuki to the top step of the podium for the first time since 2009.

"I'm happy to have been asked to join Yoshimura Suzuki at this year's Suzuka 8-hour," he said. "I have had an ambition to win at Suzuka since watching Grand Prix as a kid, when all the greats like Doohan, Rainey and Schwantz stopped mid-season to take in the event.

"I have already fulfilled my goal of competing there, but now that I've been given an opportunity to ride Yoshimura tuned GSX-R1000 at the event, I know that I'll be in a team capable of winning-even though it will not be easy. I'm really looking forward the event and hopefully we get on the podium."

Brookes is currently classified second in the overall BSB standings after four events, though he is yet to win a race.
