Shane 'Shakey' Byrne is challenging for an incredible half-century of victories in the MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park this weekend.

Byrne earned his 49th success in the series at Brands Hatch as he made amends for a spill in race one and few would bet against the three-time BSB champion reaching the milestone at the popular Cheshire venue.

The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider holds a lead of 21 points at the top of the table over nearest challenger Alex Lowes as he hunts down a record fourth title.

Byrne was a winner at Oulton earlier in the season on Paul Bird's ZX-10R and his target at the weekend is a hat-trick of wins.

"We are getting to the important part of the season now and the final rounds to make it count before the Showdown, which we need to get our position in boxed off as soon as possible," he said.

"We can then make changes to make the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki even better for those final rounds at Assen, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

"Since we were last at Oulton Park everyone has moved on again, Josh [Brookes] for example is riding really well and they have improved and are faster now and Alex will be pushing on too - that goes without saying.

"For me nothing will change; my aim is to go to Oulton Park trying to win all three races and score 75 points and nine podium credits."
