Samsung Honda's Alex Lowes powered to the top of the times in the second free practice session at Oulton Park to end the day on provisional pole.

Lowes clocked a time of 1m 36.140s to keep FP1 pacesetter Shane 'Shakey' Byrne at bay as he put down a marker ahead of this weekend's MCE British Superbike Championship triple-header.

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider Byrne was a few hundredths of a second adrift with a time of 1m 36.167s while James Ellison went third quickest on the Milwaukee Yamaha YZF-R1, five tenths of a second down on championship leader Byrne.

Australian rider Josh Brookes, who earned his maiden victory of the season last time out at Brands Hatch, was fourth fastest on the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000 ahead of Buildbase BMW's James Westmoreland, while Ryuichi Kiyonari on the second Samsung Honda rounded out the first six, almost one second down on team-mate Lowes.

Tyco Suzuki's PJ Jacobsen was seventh, 0.949s behind the leader, followed by Jon Kirkham (Buildbase BMW), Tommy Bridewell (Halsall Racing Kawasaki) and Dan Linfoot on the Lloyds British GBmoto Honda.

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider Keith Farmer, who suffered from a blood clot in his left leg following an accident during practice at Snetterton, came off his ZX-10R at the beginning of the session, which was red-flagged as a result.

The Northern Ireland rider only completed three laps, with his best time of 1m 38.844s putting him in 18th position.
