Samsung Honda's Alex Lowes hailed the first MCE British Superbike double of his career as a 'fairy tale' after the Lincoln rider bagged a 50-point haul at Cadwell Park.

Lowes won the second race on Bank Holiday Monday in dramatic circumstances as Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes slid off at Mansfield on the final lap, moments after taking the lead.

In the opening race Lowes had too much in reserve for his rivals as he edged away in the closing stages to win from championship leader Shane Byrne and Brookes.

He has reduced Byrne's lead to 37 points and is now nine points ahead of Brookes in third position in the points table.

"It has been a fairy tale weekend. That race was so hard and fair play to Josh as he stuck with me and pushed me," said Lowes.

"When he came past me I thought no, I have led all this time and he has got me on the final lap, but then luck was on my side.

"I hope Josh is ok and I am sure he is going to come back strong at Donington," he added.

"I want to thank my team and I am looking forward to the rest of the season."
