Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Chris Walker hasn't thrown in the towel in his quest to force his way into the top six Showdown in the MCE British Superbike Championship.

Walker still has an outside chance of becoming a Title Fighter as the veteran racer prepares for his home round of the series at Donington Park on the ZX-10R, with 29 points separating him from Buildbase BMW's Jon Kirkham in sixth place.

His best results this season came at Knockhill in Scotland, where Walker scored a pair of fifth place finishes, but the popular British rider hopes he can make home advantage count at Donington on Sunday as he seeks a big points haul.

"To be honest Donington Park is one of the things I look forward to and this being my home track means it is a place I really love.

"I remember watching with my nose through a fence at the Grand Prix races as a kid and always aspired to race there so it is an extra special one for me.

"I am looking forward to it; we know the Showdown is an uphill battle and we need some of the others to make mistakes but I have had a lot of bad luck this season so maybe all my good luck is all stored up," he added.

"That is why this round is so exciting; there is a big group of us that can still make it in and it means the races are definitely going to have some big battles as we all want to be in that top six."

Walker feels all the pressure is on the Buildbase BMW team with Kirkham favourite to clinch the final Showdown spot.

"I think if you look at it Buildbase BMW have the most to lose as they have held that position for the last few rounds, but they had a tough one at Cadwell Park so we have seen it can all turn around," he said.

"This is what the Showdown is all about and I will be trying everything to get the best result I can so that we have a fighting chance at a place."
