Keith Farmer has ended the first day of MCE British Superbike Championship free practice at the head of the timesheets around Donington Park on a day otherwise defined by poor weather conditions.
With just two riders completing a lap time in the sodden first practice session, only a marginal improvement in the conditions for FP2 would keep mileage to a relative minimum, while some riders opted to stay in the pit lane altogether.
In the end, Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Farmer would come away with the quickest time, a mere 0.001secs ahead of Ryuichi Kiyonari, the Japanese rider coming into this weekend on the cusp of reaching the Title Showdown.
The already-confirmed Alex Lowes was third fastest, ahead of James Westmoreland the series leader Shane Byrne, while Tommy Bridewell completed the top six.
Another rider well positioned to make the Title Showdown, James Ellison was seventh best, ahead of Matteo Baiocco on the Moto Rapido Ducati, Jon Kirkham and Michael Rutter.
