Tommy Bridewell was back on the rostrum at the MCE British Superbike round at Donington Park but it wasn't enough to secure a Showdown place for the Halsall Racing Kawasaki rider.

The Devizes man was forced out of race one with a technical fault, losing the chance to score some crucial points, but hit back in the second race to finish third behind Alex Lowes and Shane Byrne to give the team its second podium of the season.

Bridewell had been holding fifth place until his ZX-10R developed an engine problem in the first race and his hopes of reaching the Showdown were dealt a fatal blow.

He held second place in race two for a spell before being overtaken by Byrne, eventually securing a brilliant third place result to add to his runner-up finish at Cadwell Park in the previous round.

"The weekend has been fantastic all in all. We just had some bad luck in race one with the engine and had we not had the trouble I'm sure we could've been on the podium," said Bridewell.

"The team worked really hard between races to get the bike ready and to get the third was great. Alex and 'Shakey' were just a little bit stronger at the end but they had a race on me so had a bit more knowledge.

"Obviously it is a massive shame that we couldn't make it into the Showdown but from here I want to make my own mark on the end of the season by battling for the podium as much as I can in the final three rounds."
