BSS: Mar-Train Racing and Irwin part company

'We wish Glenn every success but would like to reiterate, that we will not be actively searching for a replacement' - Tim Martin
Northern Ireland team Mar-Train Racing has switched to a one-man effort for the remainder of the British Supersport Championship after parting company with Glenn Irwin.

The team will focus its efforts solely on Stuart Easton, who leads the series by eight points from Gearlink Kawasaki's Alastair Seeley.

Irwin has endured a tough season thwarted by crashes and is tenth in the standings on 85 points.

Mar-Train Racing team principal, Tim Martin, said: “It's always disappointing to have to make such decisions in the middle of a season, but having discussed it with Glenn and his personal sponsors, we feel it's the correct decision at this time for Mar-Train Racing and Glenn Irwin.

“Glenn has been involved with us for a number of seasons, making ad-hoc appearances in Mar-Train Racing colours – so we are very fond of him – but the motorsport paddock is a fast moving industry and this will allow both parties to pursue their chosen goals for the remainder of the year un-interrupted.

“We wish Glenn every success but would like to reiterate, that we will not be actively searching for a replacement,” he added.

“Our main focus will be on the remaining three rounds and doing our best to win the championship with Stuart Easton.”

A disappointed Irwin said he had given maximum effort in an attempt to make the most of the opportunity afforded to him by the team this season.

“Obviously I'm disappointed not to be finishing the season with Mar-Train Racing but I'll be back on a bike very soon,” he said.

“I'd just like to thank Tim and Sonya and all the guys in the team for their support this season. I believe I still have the potential to run at the front in British Supersport and that's my plan to keep building towards that goal.

“It hasn't worked out this year for various reasons, but in no part is it a lack of effort from the team or from me,” he added.

“I still hope Stuart can wrap up the 2013 championship and I'd also like to think that I can return to Mar-Train Racing at some point in the future and maybe challenge for a championship myself.”
