Alex Lowes has laid down the gauntlet to his Title Showdown rivals by dominating the opening day of British Superbike free practice at Assen.
Unfazed by the crash that ended his FP1 session early, Lowes was straight back to the top of the timesheets as FP2 got underway, the Samsung Honda rider eventually lowering his best to 1min 38.049secs.
Nearing lap record pace, Lowes was just under three tenths faster than PJ Jacobsen, the young American impressing again on the Tyco Suzuki to get himself ahead of the remaining Title Showdown contenders.
James Ellison was third fastest for Milwaukee Yamaha, ahead of Ryuichi Kiyonari, the Japanese rider making the biggest improvement between the sessions as he bounced from outside the top ten to fourth position.
Series leader Shane Byrne rounded out the top five, ahead of new Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team-mate Noriyuki Haga, Chris Walker and Jakub Smrz, while title contender Josh Brookes was ninth and Tommy Bridewell was tenth best.
Just outside the top ten, the sixth and final Title Showdown rider James Westmoreland was 11th best, the Buildbase BMW rider suffering a slip at turn 15.
