Samsung Honda's Alex Lowes wasn't unsettled by the damp track conditions at Brands Hatch as the MCE British Superbike title challenger headed FP1.
Lowes trails Shane 'Shakey' Byrne by a single point ahead of the triple-header Showdown finale this weekend and leapt to the top of the times with his final lap, demoting Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes to second.
The Honda rider's time of 1m 37.807s gave him the number one spot by 0.153 seconds from the Aussie, with Lowes' team-mate, Freddy Foray, a surprise third fastest.
Foray, who has replaced the injured Ryuichi Kiyonari in the team, had enjoyed a spell at the head of the field this morning before being toppled by Brookes and then Lowes, setting a fastest time of 1m 39.55s to leave the Frenchman 1.745s off the pace in third.
American rookie PJ Jacobsen went fourth quickest on the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000 ahead of Michael Rutter on the Bathams Honda and Chris Walker on the Quattro Plant Kawasaki.
Behind the top six, Aaron Zanotti (STEL Suzuki), Jakub Smrz (Padgett's Honda), Danny De Boer (Bathams Honda) and Peter Hickman on the Lloyds British GBmoto Honda were the top ten.
Championship leader Shane Byrne was 11th on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki, but only completed three laps.CLICK HERE
