Alex Lowes took advantage of the changeable weather conditions at Brands Hatch to end the final MCE British Superbike Championship free practice session at the summit.

The Samsung Honda rider put in a last-gap lap in the damp in 1m 37.819s to push Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes to second place, with the Australian rider 0.255s in arrears.

Young American PJ Jacobsen was third fastest as the series rookie maintain his excellent finish to the season, finishing ahead of championship leader Shane Byrne on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki in fourth, who was 1.459s behind title rival Lowes.

Milwaukee Yamaha's James Ellison was next, followed by Freddy Foray in sixth position on the second of the Samsung Honda machines, with the French rider again showcasing his wet weather riding skills.

Jakub Smrz was seventh quickest on the Padgett's Honda, followed by veteran Chris Walker (Quattro Plant Kawasaki), Jon Kirkham on the Buildbase BMW and PR Kawasaki's Karl Harris, who rounded out the top ten.

Noriyuki Haga was 12th on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki with Tommy Bridewell (Milwaukee Yamaha) in 14th.

Showdown rider James Westmoreland was languishing in 15th place on the Buildbase BMW.

The session began in the dry before rain started to fall around the Kent track.
