Josh Brookes will start today's opening race of the MCE British Superbike Championship triple-header Showdown weekend from pole position at Brands Hatch.
The Tyco Suzuki rider had the upper hand in the damp on the GSX-R1000 in Q3, taking his first pole of the year by almost half-a-second from Shane Byrne on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki, who is joined on the front row by title adversary Alex Lowes.
Josh Waters rode superbly on the Halsall Kawasaki to finish fourth fastest, with the second row completed by Karl Harris on the PR Kawasaki and Waters' team-mate, Lee Costello.
Dan Linfoot (Lloyds British GBmoto Honda), James Westmoreland on the Buildbase BMW and Tyco Suzuki's PJ Jacobsen were next, with the top ten completed by Matteo Baiocco on the Rapido Sport Ducati.
Tommy Bridewell was 14th on the Milwaukee Yamaha, finishing two places ahead of team-mate and Showdown rider James Ellison in 16th position behind Chris Walker.
Freddy Foray, who replaces Ryuichi Kiyonari on the Samsung Honda, was 18th while Japanese star Noriyuki Haga was a lowly 22nd on Paul Bird's Kawasaki.
Championship leader Byrne had been leading Q2 until Brookes hit the top, with Costello also edging out the Kawasaki rider for second position.
Milwaukee Yamaha rider Ellison appeared to have some issues with his YZF-R1 and along with Bridewell, Shaun Muir's BSB pair failed to progress to Q3 along with Jakub Smrz, Michael Rutter, Freddy Foray, Chris Walker, Jon Kirkham and Peter Hickman.
In Q1, it was Lowes who clocked the fastest time on his Fireblade from Brookes and the impressive Costello.
A number of riders were caught out by the wet conditions, including Haga, who went down unscathed at Graham Hill Bend.
Howie Mainwaring, David Linortner and Jenny Tinmouth also slid off, while Jon Kirkham managed to squeeze into Q2 despite a spill at Clarke Curve.
