Byrne sets early pace during Almeria test

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne is fast out of the traps as MCE British Superbike star heads morning test times at Almeria
Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider Shane 'Shakey' Byrne had the bit between his teeth as testing got underway at Almeria in Spain.

The three-time MCE British Superbike champion led the way in the morning session on his ZX-10R from James Ellison on the Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki.

Byrne's fastest lap of 1m 38.787s gave him the early top spot by 0.587s from Ellison, with team-mate Stuart Easton third fastest on the second of Paul Bird's machines.

Easton returns to BSB this season after clinching the British Supersport title in 2013 for Northern Ireland team Mar-Train Racing after a season-long battle with Gearlink Kawasaki's Alastair Seeley.

The Quattro Plant Kawasaki team of Dan Linfoot and Howie Mainwaring was also in action for the first time in Spain, with Linfoot fourth quickest ahead of Yeovil's Martin Jessopp on the Riders Motorcycles BMW.

SBK City Racing's Rhalf Lo Turco has made his debut at Almeria, having his first shakedown as he prepares for his maiden foray into BSB.

Almeria morning session:
1. Shane Byrne 1m 38.787s
2. James Ellison +0.587s
3. Stuart Easton + 0.707s
4. Dan Linfoot +1.243s
5. Martin Jessopp +1.283s
6. Rhalf Lo Turco +6.767s
