Byrne rooted to top spot as Almeria test concludes

28 March 2014

MCE British Superbike protagonist Shane Byrne completed a clean sweep of fastest times at the three-day Spanish test at Almeria, which concluded on Thursday.

The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider, who finished as the series runner-up behind Alex Lowes in 2013, ended the test with a quickest time of 1m 37.747s as team-mate Stuart Easton completed a PBM one-two in second position, 0.878s behind Byrne.

Scotsman Easton bounced back following a high-speed spill on the opening day to make good progress on the ZX-10R as the reigning British Supersport champion returns to the class this year.

Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Dan Linfoot edged out Chris Walker on the Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki for third, 0.9s off the top time, while James Ellison was fifth fastest and only 0.142s behind team-mate Walker.

Howie Mainwaring (Quattro Plant Kawasaki) and Martin Jessopp on the Riders Motorcycles BMW were top the seven.

Pre-season testing continues next week with the official BSB shakedown at Donington Park.
