Shane Byrne dominates pre-season BSB testing

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne heads into the opening BSB round as the rider to beat after breaking lap records at Donington and Snetterton.
Shane Byrne heads into the start of the 2014 MCE British Superbike Championship as the early favourite for a record-breaking fourth BSB title after completing his a dominant pre-season test performance at Snetterton.

The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider, who missed out on that fourth title in 2013 after losing out to Alex Lowes in a final race showdown, has begun preparations for 2014 in the best way possible, finishing quickest in all three official pre-season tests.

Though he benefitted from the absence of Milwaukee Yamaha at Snetterton, Byrne's lap record-setting pace at both Donington Park and Snetterton sets him up for a strong opening at Brands Hatch in just over a week's time.

"This has been a good test for us and it shows that over the winter the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team haven't stood still. Snetterton for us in the past few years hasn't been our strongest track, but I have really worked well with the new 17" Pirelli tyres, so to come here and end like this has been great.

“I did push in the final session for a lap, but I think if we had managed some more then we could have been even quicker so we are happy now and ready for Brands Hatch."
