Kiyonari: This will be a very good year for me

17 April 2014

Ryuichi Kiyonari anticipates a big year in the MCE British Superbike Championship after drawing plenty of confidence from his first tests on the Buildbase BMW.

The three-time BSB champion had limited track time at Mallory Park but at Donington began to get a proper feel for the S1000RR and the Japanese star has been impressed with what he's seen so far.

“I am looking forward to Brands Hatch and finally racing the BMW for the first time as we are happy after the tests,” Kiyo said.

“At Donington they were the first laps really after just a small amount of laps at Mallory Park to begin with and for me I was surprised with the BMW straight away.

“I am happy that I have been able to get some good confidence already and feel like I can still go faster. Everything is feeling good and I think this will be a very good year for me.”

Kiyonari last won the BSB title in 2010 and is one of the most experienced riders on the grid, boasting a win tally of 43 victories.

However, he has struggled somewhat in recent seasons and finished sixth in 2013 as his Honda team-mate Alex Lowes clinched the title.

BMW has yet to finish on the rostrum in BSB but has reached the Showdown stage in the past two seasons with Tommy Bridewell and Kiyonari's team-mate this season, James Westmoreland.
