Ben Wilson provided Gearlink Kawasaki with an impressive fourth place finish on the team's first foray into the MCE British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch.

The former Supersport contender qualified in seventh place on the ZX-10R in the wet for race one but struggled to find a strong dry set-up for the Indy circuit.

Wilson managed to hold John Hopkins, Stuart Easton, Tommy Bridewell and Richard Cooper at bay to finish fourth in the re-started race one, but was unable to repeat the feat in the second race, crossing the line in tenth place.

Nonetheless, Wilson was pleased overall with his results from the opening round of the 2014 championship.

"To be honest, although sometimes I was a little frustrated at times trying to find a suitable set-up, we got there in the end and by the end of today I'm pretty pleased with how things turned out," said Wilson.

"The rain actually played in our favour in qualifying and to end up in seventh on the grid I was really pleased about as we had been struggling up to that point.

"I was able to get two fantastic starts in race one and in the re-start of race one and if you had said to me on Friday I would be finishing in fourth place I don't think I would have believed it," he added.

"I wasn't able to make a decent start in race two and lost time on the frontrunners and rode a bit of a lonely race out there.

"I'm so pleased with the weekend and can't wait to get to Oulton Park and get back out there again."
