Shane Byrne has picked up where he left off from the long break between races as he topped first free practice for the third MCE British Superbike Championship round at Snetterton.
Leading the championship after the first four races, the three-time champion was quickly up to speed around the Norfolk circuit, comfortably out-pacing main rival Josh Brookes on the Milwaukee Yamaha by three tenths of a second.
Chris Walker continues on his fine form aboard the Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki in third place, while defending champions Honda Racing enjoyed a strong start to its return event, Julien Da Costa fourth fastest on the CBR1000RR.
Buildbase BMW duo Ryuichi Kiyonari and James Westmoreland followed in fifth and sixth, ahead of John Hopkins – who suffered a crash -, Jakub Smrz, Patric Muff and Tommy Bridewell.
