As first reported by Crash.net
in May, Alstare Bimota will enter three rounds of the 2014 MCE British Superbike Championship with a 'Junior' entry.
The iconic Italian manufacturer returned to the premier motorsport scene in 2014, entering a pair of EVO-specification BB3 machines into the World Superbike Championship under the guidance of former champions Alstare.
An ambitious project that has already yielded impressive results in the hands of Ayrton Badovini and Christian Iddon, even if homologation rules state they cannot score points, Alstare team owner Francis Batta had previously indicated plans to take Bimota beyond WSBK, exclusively revealing to Crash.net that he is seeking a move into BSB
As such, Alstare Bimota Junior will appear at Thruxton, the Oulton Park triple-header and Cadwell Park with rider Christophe Ponsson, who has been riding the BB3 in the CEV Spanish Superbike Championship, and Benjamin Batta heading up the team.
“The Bimota Alstare Junior Team are very happy to race with wildcard appearances in the MCE British Superbike Championship and we want to thank all the organisations who have made this possible with their cooperation and efficiency. Although the British circuits are unfamiliar for Christophe he is very excited and happy to take on this new challenge.”
Increasing the number of represented manufacturers to seven, BSB series director Stuart Higgs is pleased to have Bimota coming on board
"I'm delighted to welcome the Bimota Alstare Junior team to the championship together with Christophe. Both Bimota and Alstare have huge pedigree in the history of Superbike racing and its fantastic news for the MCE BSB to have them represented and add the seventh manufacturer to the Championship."
