Brands Hatch BSB: Race two stopped after massive Ellison accident

James Ellison suffers huge race two accident at Brands Hatch BSB.
Race two of the Brands Hatch MCE British Superbike round has been red flagged after a massive accident for James Ellison.

Ellison was leading the race when he drifted wide and onto the grass on the downhill plunge to Dingle Dell at over 100mph, on lap 2 of 20.

The Englishman was flung from his GBmoto Kawasaki and slid hard into the nearby protective trackside barrier, while his ZX-10R was sent bouncing down the track. Ellison's bike clipped championship leader Shane Byrne, who kept control.

Ellison was able to remove his own helmet and gloves while sitting by the side of the circuit, with an ambulance arriving shortly afterwards.

A Safety Car was initially called, but the debris and fuel on the circuit meant the race was red flagged. To add to the uncertainty, rain clouds are now gathering.

Ellison had finished third in race one, just 0.687s from winner Ryuichi Kiyonari with championship leader Byrne in second.

Update 1: Howie Mainwaring had a big highside at almost the same place as Ellison fall, after a fluid leak from his Kawasaki on the warm-up lap for the restart.

Update 2: The restart was almost instantly red flagged due to rain.

Update 3: Ellison has tweeted the following picture, while his team principal Mark Smith-Halvorsen stated: “The initial reports on James have revealed he's injured himself and is currently in hospital undergoing further scans, where we'll hopefully have a better idea of the extent of them."
