Richard Cooper's hopes of making the 2014 British Superbike Title Showdown have received a major blow after a crash in qualifying left him with a broken humerus and wrist.
The Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki rider has shown impressive form in his first full season of BSB racing, peaking with his maiden podium last time out at Brands Hatch, a result that moves him into outside contention for the overall top six.
However, a crash at Campbell during qualifying at Thruxton has left Cooper nursing a broken humerus and two lower bones towards the wrist, which will require surgery.
Ruling him out of the two races at Thruxton, with the next round at Oulton Park just a week away it is likely he will be forced to miss round seven as well.
It is the second injury set-back for the TAG team – which is stepping up to BSB this year after success at Supersport level – after Mitchell Carr injured himself at Snetterton.
