Thruxton BSB: Byrne: I should be ecstatic…

Shane Byrne adds to his Podium Credit tally with a pair of second places at Thruxton, but the man himself is disappointed not to win
Shane Byrne says he can't help but be somewhat disappointed not to secure a win in either British Superbike Championship race at Thruxton after being out-performed by Josh Brookes in both races.

The runaway championship leader headed both races in the early stages, but had no answer to Brookes when he came past on both occasions, Byrne instead having to contend with the rapidly advancing Ryuichi Kiyonari behind him.

Holding on for two second positions to protect his large championship lead and secure good podium credits towards a likely Title Showdown position, Byrne admits he should be delighted with the results at the end of a troubled weekend, but was still disappointed.

"In the greater scheme of things, I should be ecstatic with two second place finishes and 40 points given all the problems we had in practice and qualifying but I rode my heart out in both races and I am a bit disappointed not to have grabbed a win.

“I made a few mistakes in the first race which allowed Josh to make the break and the team did a great job to give me a bike I could challenge for the race win in the second race so I was more confident.

“I had to work so hard to keep up with Josh though and thought I might be able to nick it on the last lap but it almost ended in tears as I had to scrub off an awful lot of speed so as not to collide with him. It's more points and fair play to Josh as he rode superbly all weekend but we'll see what we can do at Oulton next weekend."

Brookes leads the standings by 82 points from Brookes and has now accumulated 45 podium credits towards the Title Showdown with three rounds and seven races to go until the shootout.
