In-form Linfoot ramps up top six battle

4 August 2014

Two fourth place finishes and a lengthy stint leading both races have identified Dan Linfoot as a convincing contender to reach the 2014 BSB Title Showdown, the Quattro Plant Kawasaki rider ascending into a provisional top six position.

After qualifying inside the top three for the first time in his career, Linfoot showed no signs of pressure as he powered into an early lead of race one, comfortably heading Shane Byrne and Josh Brookes for seven laps before being shuffled down to third place.

Caught and passed by a charging Ryuichi Kiyonari late on, fourth place at the chequered flag still marked Linfoot's best BSB result in 92 starts, while his fastest lap earned him pole position for race two.

Running with the leaders once again in race two, even after it was restarted, Linfoot was once more denied an elusive podium by Kiyonari's late pass, but a pair of fourth places mark a healthy points' haul for a rider that has been the measure of consistency all year having finished lower than eighth just once this season.

“One of the things I've wanted most this season has been to run with the top boys and whilst I did that successfully in both races, I'm a bit disappointed now not have taken at least one podium! It's been a great weekend though and the boys in the team did a great job, giving me a missile of a bike, and I focused really hard to be on the pace from the very first free practice session. At some of the previous rounds, it's taken me a while to get up to speed so I made a conscious effort to reverse that trend this weekend and it paid off.”

“I was consistent throughout and ticked a lot of boxes this weekend in terms of qualifying on the front row for the first race, leading a BSB race and taking pole position for the second, all for the first time.”

Moving level with fellow Kawasaki rider Chris Walker in fifth overall – and just eight points behind the injury sidelined James Ellison -, Linfoot has worked his way into a strong position to reach the Title Showdown in three events time.

“I've taken my best ever finishes this weekend to grab a haul of points to move into the all-important top six Showdown positions so there's lots of positives to take away and with the next round only a few days away, I want to do all I can to maintain the momentum.”
