Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki team manager Mark Smith-Halvorsen says James Ellison's recovery from injury is going well and hasn't ruled out him returning in time to give him a shot at retaining his spot in the Title Showdown.
Having never deviated outside the overall top three for the opening five rounds, Ellison's crash and hip injury at Brands Hatch – which have ruled him out of the following two events at Thruxton and Oulton Park this weekend – have put his comfortable top six position under threat.
Currently fourth overall, but just eight points clear of team-mate Chris Walker and Dan Linfoot in fifth and sixth, and Tommy Bridewell 12 points adrift in seventh.
Though Smith-Halvorsen remains uncertain as to Ellison's return date, he is hopeful he will be back before the Showdown commences, giving him the opportunity to still qualify.
James' recovery is progressing exactly to plan and he's as eager as anyone to return to action. He completes his Hyperbaric Chamber rehabilitation this week and will head home whereby he'll continue to work back to full fitness.
“It's still too early to give a return date but we're confident we'll see him back out before the Showdown where he'll try and fight his way back into the top six.”
