Ryuichi Kiyonari has started the Oulton Park triple-header as he means to go on after topping the timesheets by a substantial margin in first free practice, while Josh Brookes suffered a costly tumble.

The Japanese rider, who has moved into a comfortable Title Showdown position after claiming podiums in five of the last six races - including two wins -, was a full six tenths faster than his closest opposition on the Buildbase BMW.

Shane Byrne finished on the other end of the six tenths margin in second position, ahead of Chris Walker and Tommy Bridewell, who posted identical lap times in third and fourth.

Brookes, meanwhile, ran high early on but would suffer a high-speed off at Druids, ending his session early and dropping him outside the top ten on the timesheets. The Australian is nonetheless unhurt.

Scene of his first-ever BSB win back in 2011, John Hopkins was a solid fifth best on the Tyco Suzuki, ahead of Jon Kirkham, Stuart Easton and Barry Burrell, with Peter Hickman and Patric Muff completing the top ten.
