BSB Cadwell Park: Brookes optimistic of victory challenge

Milwaukee Yamaha's Josh Brookes says Cadwell Park should play to the strengths of the YZF-R1 as he bids to close the gap to Shane Byrne in the Podium Points table at round eight of the MCE British Superbike Championship
Milwaukee Yamaha's Josh Brookes expects the YZF-R1 to be 'super fast' at Cadwell Park as the Aussie star chases more MCE British Superbike success.

Brookes, who won race three at the Oulton Park triple-header, is aiming to close the gap in the Podium Points tables to championship leader Shane Byrne at the Bank Holiday meeting, which is hosting the eighth round of the series.

“I remember last year at Cadwell Park having some really good, close battles with Alex [Lowes as he was on good form,” he said. “I seem to remember that event as one of best of the year in terms of having a strong race and speed.

“I am hoping that it is a track thing and if you focus on the circuit I think the Yamaha could be super fast there. We have seen in the past that the Yamaha has been strong, with Tommy [Hill], Michael [Laverty] and Leon [Camier] all having good results - it should be a track that it is well suited to,” Brookes added.

“I am hoping that the two things combined will make for some good races and we can continue to push for the best results possible.”

Brookes was third fastest in FP1 on Saturday morning behind Ryuichi Kiyonari and Byrne.
