for BSB Donington Park FP1 results
Having declared his intentions to settle for nothing less than wins at Donington Park this weekend, British Superbike Championship title contender Ryuichi Kiyonari got his weekend off to a fitting start by topping FP1.
The Buildbase BMW is coming into the event seeking precious podium credits to bolster his championship challenge having successfully reached the BSB Title Showdown with one round to spare.
The Japanese rider – who won at Donington Park at World Superbike level back in 2008 – was two tenths quicker than main title rival Shane Byrne, while John Hopkins made a welcome return to the top three with an encouraging run to third on the Tyco Suzuki, the American having been a double winner here in 2011.
Tommy Bridewell was fourth best, ahead of Dan Linfoot and Chris Walker, the latter two riders in position to seal the two remaining BSB Title Showdown spots this weekend.
Linfoot's Quattro Plant Kawasaki team-mate Howie Mainwaring was a strong seventh, ahead of Cadwell Park race winner Peter Hickman, the RAF Reserves rider just ahead of Julien da Costa on the returning wild-card Honda Racing machine. Josh Brookes was tenth best.
Elsewhere, Filip Backlund made his BSB debut on the FFX Yamaha in an encouraging 16th position, while series returnee James Ellison continued his steady comeback in 20th place. Elsewhere, this weekend sees the return of David Johnson, replacing Keith Farmer on the PR Kawasaki, and Saudi Arabian rider Abdulaziz Binladin riding a Saudi Falcons BMW.
