John Hopkins described his first pole position of the season in the MCE British Superbike Championship at Donington Park as an 'added bonus' after the American star had targeted a front row start.

The Tyco Suzuki rider held Buildbase BMW's Ryuichi Kiyonari at bay in Q3 to edge the top spot by 0.039 seconds with Shane Byrne rounding out the front row.

Hopkins, whose Showdown prospects are over irrespective of what happens at Donington, said: "It feels really good to be on pole at a track that has always been good to me.
