John Hopkins has ended the first day of MCE British Superbike Championship action at Assen on top of the timesheets, ahead of the Title Showdown contenders.

The former BSB runner-up, who showed an impressive upturn in form last time out at Donington Park by taking his first pole position of the season, was back on the pace again in FP2, his lap time of 1min 37.472secs putting him two tenths clear of the opposition and just two tenths shy of the lap record.

FP1 pace setter Ryuichi Kiyonari headed that challenge in second place as the best of the title contenders, albeit with fellow rivals Shane Byrne, Chris Walker and Dan Linfoot close behind in third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Patric Muff, on the sole Bathams BMW this weekend, was sixth best, ahead of Tommy Bridewell, Peter Hickman, Josh Brookes and Stuart Easton.
