Buildbase BMW Showdown contender Ryuichi Kiyonari put in a blistering time at Assen to lead the way in FP3 ahead of final qualifying.

Kiyonari, a double winner at Donington Park, is a rider in peak form and it showed as he lapped in 1m 37.130s to end the final free practice session at the iconic Dutch track with three tenths of a second in hand over Milwaukee Yamaha's Josh Brookes.

Aussie Brookes is only a single point ahead of Kiyonari in the Showdown standings in second position, with Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider Shane 'Shakey' Byrne top, 26 points clear of Brookes.

Byrne, bidding to clinch a record fourth BSB title along with Japanese star Kiyonari in the 'War for Four', was third quickest on the ZX-10R, lapping in 1m 37.523s.

The PBM rider had held sway at the top in the early part of FP3 before Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Dan Linfoot briefly went fastest.

Byrne responded to move into pole position once more, but Kiyonari soon made his move with the fastest lap of the weekend so far to take over on the S1000RR.

Brookes shunted Byrne back to third in the closing stages of FP3, while Louth's Peter Hickman shone on the RAF Reserves Honda, coming through to take fourth, knocking Title Fighter Linfoot down to fifth.

Tommy Bridewell completed the top six on the Milwaukee Yamaha, with American John Hopkins – fastest overall on Friday – next, 0.738s down on Kiyonari.

Scotsman Stuart Easton was eighth on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki, with the ever-improving James Ellison moving into the top 10 on the GBmoto Kawasaki.

Christian Iddon on the Alstare Bimota impressed to claim 10th position ahead of Bathams BMW rider Patric Muff and Jon Kirkham (Halsall Kawasaki).

However, Chris Walker will be aiming for a better performance in qualifying after the Showdown challenger ended FP3 in 14th position on the Quattro Plant Kawasaki ahead of Tyco Suzuki's Josh Waters.
