Alstare Bimota Junior's Christian Iddon was celebrating an unexpected pole start after taking advantage of the wet final qualifying session at Assen.

Iddon, entered as a wildcard for the first Showdown round of the championship, heads up the front row from Tyco Suzuki's John Hopkins and Tommy Bridewell on the Milwaukee Yamaha.

"I am pleasantly surprised as I was not expecting this," Iddon said. "We had been working hard to set the bike for the dry and we are not quite there, but in these conditions it was a case of going out and enjoying it.
