Tyco Suzuki's Josh Waters refused to back down as he battled with Ryuichi Kiyonari on a nail-biting final lap at Assen, emerging on top to claim his season wet weather win of the season.

Aussie Waters' victory provided a welcome return to the rostrum for the Northern Ireland team, with Waters and American star John Hopkins both failing to make the all-important Showdown top six.

It was a dream debut at Assen for Waters, who went on to finish eighth in the dry in race two.

"I'm wrapped to have taken another win for Tyco Suzuki and I really enjoyed the conditions," Waters said.

"Coming here for the first time I'd have been happy with solid single figure top ten finishes but the boys really have perfected a top class wet weather set-up on the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000, and I just dug in, kept it upright and yeah, I'm really happy to get another BSB win.

"I made a poor start in race two and got caught up and maybe was a little frustrated, but I'm satisfied enough with my weekend's work and we can take away a lot of positives."

Waters - a winner at Brands Hatch earlier in the season - is currently ninth in the championship table, one place ahead of team-mate Hopkins.
