Ryuichi Kiyonari has struck down an impressive benchmark for his rivals to follow at Silverstone, the British Superbike title contender a clear eight tenths up on the opposition after FP1.

The Japanese rider, who didn't race at Silverstone last season due to an injury, was in fine form throughout the session, tussling with main rival Shane Byrne initially before pulling clear on the Buildbase BMW, his time of 2m 06.628secs well clear of the competition.

A late improvement saw John Hopkins pop into second position, splitting Kiyonari and Byrne, while Dan Linfoot and Josh Brookes kept themselves in the mix with a top five placing.

Peter Hickman led the Honda charge in sixth position, ahead of Josh Waters, Tommy Bridewell, James Westmoreland and Stuart Easton.
