Tommy Bridewell says the opportunity to overtake team-mate Josh Brookes in the MCE British Superbike Showdown slipped through his grasp at Silverstone.

Brookes took a strong third in race one but came off while battling for the podium in the second race, with Bridewell finishing fourth to slash the Aussie's advantage in third place to only two points.

However, Milwaukee Yamaha rider Bridewell could only manage 10th place in race one, blaming a less than ideal setting on the YZF-R1, and feels his chance of surpassing Brookes in the standings before the final round at Brands Hatch was blown.

"Today has been far from what we expected. We have not had an ideal weekend as the setting was out in race one when I had no pace and was stuck with a group of riders," Bridewell said.

"We made drastic changes for race two and they made a lot of difference. It is a shame because we were a race behind.

"We are in a bit of a see-saw [situation] at the moment - we have one good race and one bad race," he added.

"I could have got ahead of Josh here and now it looks like I will have to try again at Brands Hatch."
