James Ellison says he is targeting a maiden MCE British Superbike Championship title next season after agreeing a contract extension with the Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki team for 2015.

The former BSB runner-up and nine-time race winner joined GBmoto at the start of the 2014 season when it made the switch from Honda to Kawasaki machinery and quickly established himself as a front-runner, scoring seven podiums from the opening nine races.

However, a serious accident at Brands Hatch would leave him with a hip injury that would rule him out of the following three events, scuppering his hopes of reaching the Title Showdown.

Nonetheless, having returned to the podium last time out at Silverstone, the fully recovered Ellison believes he can now aim for the overall title in 2015 with the GBmoto team.

"Firstly, I'm so grateful to Mark and the entire GBmoto team for showing the faith in me for a second year - obviously with the injury the last few rounds haven't been a true representation of mine or the team's ability but thankfully they've looked past that.

"We put in a lot of hard work over the winter to get the bikes up to scratch and to get seven podiums from the opening nine rounds was fantastic and one of my best ever starts to a Superbike season. We were getting stronger with each round and a race win was a certainty in my eyes. We came into almost every round this year completely blind with no settings or prior knowledge and were still able to walk away with podiums, so to return next year with race knowledge will mean we can only be better!

"The injury aside, it has been an awesome year. We've all gelled really well and the GBmoto team are incredibly professional but a lot of fun to ride for too. I've known Mark for a while and he's really serious about his racing. When he employed me, he told me he had a five year plan to win the BSB series, I believe up until Brands Hatch we were in a position to do that a year early, so next year we'll be aiming for nothing less than the title!

"My aim now is to finish the season on a high with some more podiums. I've got a score to settle at Brands so will certainly be looking for the win - then it's going to be a long winter wait until the first round!"
