Shane Byrne has drawn first blood in this weekend's much anticipated British Superbike head-to-head between himself and Ryuichi Kiyonari, the Kawasaki rider finishing free practice two comfortably ahead of his arch rival.

With dry conditions greeting the riders for FP2 following a damp FP1, Byrne and Kiyonari were immediately on the pace as they swapped position at the top of the timesheets early on, the pair joined by erstwhile title contender Josh Brookes in the fight for session honours.

Byrne would eventually break away at the front with a lap time of 1min 26.281secs, putting him almost half-a-second clear of the tightly-packed competition of late improver James Ellison, Brookes and Kiyonari in second, third and fourth respectively.

John Hopkins completed the top five to bring Suzuki into the mix, ahead of Stuart Easton and Jon Kirkham, with Title Showdown contenders Tommy Bridewell and Dan Linfoot.

I'm rooting for Shakey, since I have supported him since he was at Performance House. Having said that, I wouldn't be disappointed if Kiyo wins. They both deserve it so much. Game on, lads! Best of luck to you both.
