Cooper fighting fit for TAG Kawasaki

Richard Cooper is ready to pick up where he left off with TASGKawasaki after a broken arm cut short his 2014 BSB season
Richard Cooper is fighting fit for his return to British Superbikes for 2015 with Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki after recovering from a broken arm he sustained while racing at Thruxton last August.

The Nottingham-based rider is determined to hit the ground running at pre-season testing and Cooper has already targeted a top six finish in the riders' standings to qualify for BSB's Showdown.

“It is going to be very tough this season, it always is, but if you look at the growing list of riders for 2015 that shows the competition,” Cooper said. “However, I think if we can pick up where we left off before the injury then we should be in a good position.

“Every rider wants to be in the Showdown, but the past seasons have shown if you can be consistently finishing in the top six then there is no reason why we can't be there or thereabouts to do it.”

The Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki rider's 2014 campaign was abruptly ended after he broke his arm during qualifying at last season's Thruxton round. The Brit's season had begun brightly, scoring the team's first podium finish at Brands Hatch and continually finished in the top ten.

“Thruxton has never been one of my best circuits but from the start of the weekend we were flying so I was feeling confident about trying to push for the top six again,” Cooper recalled. “But then I had the crash in qualifying.

“The team were really supportive and that combined with the results we had achieved which made the decision to stay with them this season an easy one."

Cooper is keen to get started after watching on injured for the second half of last year and the team hopes to build on a positive 2014, their debut year in British Superbikes. Cooper will team mate fellow Brit Shaun Winfield and Swedish rider Filip Backlund at TAG Kawasaki on the ZX-R10 machines.

“I am really excited about getting back on the Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki again after missing out last year with the injury,” Cooper said. “I felt that when the crash happened my season was just getting going and I was starting to make an impression on the championship.”

Cooper made his step up to the British Superbike Championship in 2014 after two years in the Supersport series, finishing sixth in 2012 and seventh in 2013. Cooper rose through the ranks after being crowned the National Superstock 1000 champion in 2011.
