Honda Racing's Dan Linfoot described his debut for the returning MCE British Superbike team at Monteblanco in Spain on Wednesday as 'better than Christmas'.

Last year's Showdown contender Linfoot and Jason O'Halloran are taking part in a two-day test at the circuit as the duo commenced their pre-season preparations in anger.

After completing 84 laps on the Fireblade, Linfoot - who focused on basic machine set-up and configuration - said: "Today has been absolutely mega and even better than Christmas! I couldn't have wished for more from the first day on track and the bike is lovely to ride.

"It has been a case for me of getting on the bike and adjusting things to make me comfortable with the positioning, so the pegs, the bars and things like that. In that respect it has definitely been a case of job done today," he added.

"It has been good to get the basics done and also for me to learn the characteristics of the Honda with the engine, chassis and brakes, but I couldn't be happier and although we have lots still to do, it has been a fantastic start."

Aussie O'Halloran, who helped develop the Honda Superbike in 2014 in conjunction with his Superstock commitments, was equally buoyant after a positive opening test.

"The first day on track was spot on and it was great being back out on the bike and working with the crew again," he said. The last time I rode was at Brands Hatch in October so it was great to be out on a new circuit and getting back up to speed.

"I already had a good base with the basics from when I tested the Superbike last season so we could start working on a few changes to start the test. I am really looking forward to building on a positive first day's progress."

The team will undertake four days of testing in total at the Spanish circuit, gaining valuable track time ahead of the Donington test in March.
