Defending British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne says he's 'more motivated than in any other year' after the first day of testing at in Spain.

The 38-year-old was thrilled by the opening day of testing with Paul Bird Motorsport on the Kawasaki ZX-10R in Almeria, alongside his BSB team-mate Stuart Easton and road racer Ian Hutchinson. The trio had to content with high winds at the Spanish circuit but Byrne still felt the day was a success.

"It was great to get back out on track today on the PBM Kawasaki," Bryne said. "The conditions weren't favourable but we did get through some good work as a team and I have also been working on my riding style too.

"I can honestly say I am more motivated than I have been in any other year - that is why today I have also been trying to improve myself as a rider. To have done what we have on day one is a good start."

The reigning BSB champion also said he won't become complacent and is always looking for ways to develop as a rider.

"You have to keep constantly improving and I have been trying a few different things out myself as a rider," he added. "I did 40 laps today and we ticked boxes, which is what this first test is all about. We blew off the cobwebs today and had fun doing some laps again."

The trio used the opening day on track to get back up to speed and tested the team's updates for 2015. They will continue their test programmes in Almeria over the next couple of days.

The BSB championship begins at Donington Park on the 4th-6th April and a bumper 36-rider grid has already been announced with more expected for the new season.
