Quattro Plant Kawasaki rider Luke Mossey topped the timesheet narrowly ahead of Lee Jackon on the Buildbase BMW on the opening day of pre-season testing in Almeria ahead of the 2015 MCE British Superbike season.

Buildbase BMW, Quattro Plant Kawsaki and Morello Racing all started testing on Monday, with Mossey leading a quartet of riders with a 1m 37.859s lap, 0.194s ahead of Jackson. The riders will be joined by defending champion Shane Byrne and Stuart Easton with their PBM Kawasaki team on Tuesday (3rd March).

Former British Supersport spoke to the official British Superbike website stating he was satisfied with the day's work and says he is still using the tests to learn about the Kawsaki ZX-10R superbike before concentrating on performance.

"It has been a good first day for us, ending with the best time in the last session," Mossey told Britishsuperbike.com. "Every time I have been going out I have been learning more about the Superbike and that is what I want to achieve from these tests, rather than try and do anything stupid when we have a week here on track.

"I feel happy with the progress already and if we carry on then everything should fall into place ready for the first round. Today has been spot on and I feel like if we continue making steps forward like we have done so far, then we will hit the ground running when it gets to Donington Park."

Howie Mainwaring set the third fastest time of the day, 1.374s behind team-mate Mossey. The Quattro Plant rider suffered a small off at the end of the day but after checks both rider and bike were given the all-clear.

"It has been a tough day trying to blow the cobwebs away and sort the small teething problems out," Mainwaring said. "Unfortunately we ended up with a small crash when I tucked the front at turn seven, but hopefully we can improve tomorrow and get back to normal.

"It feels like I was trying to do it all in one day after having the winter off, you forget the superbike needs a bit more respect."

Morello Racing's Daniel Johnson ended the day fourth quickest on his first test with the team's new machinery.
