Shane Byrne shook off any injury worries to top the timesheets in the morning session of the official test day at Donington Park, sneaking ahead of Milwaukee Yamaha's Josh Brookes by 0.034s.

The Paul Bird Motorsport Kawasaki rider turned up at the Leicestershire track with a damaged hand after suffering a nasty crash during pre-season testing in Almeria, Spain. There was a question about whether the defending MCE British Superbike champion would be able to ride at the test but Byrne put all those doubts to rest with a hot lap of 1m 33.849s.

Milwaukee Yamaha's all-new R1 made its UK public debut in the session with Josh Brookes finishing the morning second with a hot lap of 1m 33.883s, while Tyco BMW's Tommy Bridewell completed the top three, a second behind Byrne.

A number of riders didn't venture out of the garage at all in the morning, including the Buildbase BMW pair of Ryuichi Kiyonari and Lee Jackson.
