Ryuichi Kiyonari says he lost all feeling with his Buildbase BMW machine at the MCE British Superbike season opener, but held his hands up after insisting it was a rider fault rather than a bike problem.

The 2014 BSB runner-up suffered a miserable race weekend after fading to a disappointing 14th place finish in race one after starting on pole. His miserable BSB curtain raiser was compounded when he crashed out early on in race two.

The Japanese rider came into round one as pre-season favourite and confirmed his strong early season pace after topping the timesheets in two of the three practice sessions and claiming pole position in qualifying.

However, Monday's race day saw track temperatures jump significantly which Kiyonari says changed his feeling on the S1000RR but felt he was to blame rather than the bike.

"The morning temperature was quite high, not very hot but it was much warmer than qualifying and feeling of the machine completely changed," Kiyonari said. "It wasn't a problem with the bike I just had no feeling."

As a result the three-time BSB champion ended up going backwards from pole position and eventually got to the chequered flag just inside the points. Kiyonari explained he got the feeling back with the BMW in the second race after making changes but tried to do too much and ended up suffering a highside fall at Coppice.

"We made a small change for the second race and the feeling was better," he added. "I needed to pass the three in front but it was just too much too fast. Maybe because race one wasn't very good I was too tense and hurried too much."

Despite the disappointing race results, the rider is confident he can recover in the next round at Brands Hatch. The Buildbase BMW rider will now have some catching up to do after picking up just two championship points and missing out on the important podium points looking ahead to the 2015 BSB Showdown.

"This weekend had been almost perfect. We haven't been fastest in every session but we were there most of the time. The most important thing is we fixed the issue and because of that I'm feeling confident for Brands, I will try to win."
