Brands Hatch Indy: Buildbase BMW returns stronger after difficult Donington

Buildbase BMW manager Steve Hicken says he and riders Ryuichi Kiyonari and Lee Jackson have taken stock after Donington Park and will come back stronger
Buildbase BMW team manager Steve Hicken says his squad will come back stronger at Brands Hatch after suffering a 'strange day' in the MCE British Superbike season opener at Donington Park.

Ryuichi Kiyonari started from pole position for the 2015 curtain raiser but suffered with a lack of feeling on his BMW S1000RR and dropped way off his timesheet-topping pace to finish 14th. In an attempt to make up for lost ground, the Japanese rider overdid it in race two and crashed out, while things weren't much better for his team-mate Lee Jackson who notched up two 13th place finishes.

Hicken says the results were totally unexpected and the Buildbase BMW team has picked apart the events at Donington Park to see where it went wrong.

"It was a strange day. To dominate free practice and qualifying like we did to end up with the day that we had, jeez. It wasn't what we expected,” Hicken said. “We'll just have to dig deep and come back at Brands.”

The Buildbase BMW boss is certain the team's machinery has the capability to challenge for race wins and hopes to use Brands Hatch Indy circuit as the springboard to the 2015 season.

“We'll have to start chipping away at points straight away as we need to get into that top six,” he added. “We're not lacking pace, we've got plenty of that. We'll have to have a look at the reasons why [Donington Park] race one and race two happened, take stock of it and come back stronger."
