Brands Hatch Indy: Ellison eyes maiden double win with JG Speedfit Kawasaki

After grabbing GBmoto and JG Speedfit Kawasaki's maiden BSB victory James Ellison is targeting a double-winner at Brands Hatch Indy circuit
James Ellison has set his sights on a double-winner weekend at round two of the MCE British Superbike season after securing JG Speedfit Kawasaki's maiden BSB win at Donington Park.

The former MotoGP rider stormed to victory in the MCE British Superbike 2015 curtain raiser and sees no reason why his GBmoto squad can't build on that success to challenge for race wins this weekend.

Ellison has strong form around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit after notching up back-to-back podium finishes at the Kent track when it acted as the 2014 season opener.

“I'm really looking forward to getting going at Brands Hatch,” Ellison said. “We had a great weekend on the Indy track last year and secured two podiums, so even though the bike has changed considerably since then, it's a real boost that I can turn up Friday and use those settings as a base – something I've never been able to do before.”

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider is anticipating on-track battles at almost every turn of the 1.2-mile Indy circuit, which acts as the shortest track on the BSB calendar. With the grid bolstered to its largest-ever size, Ellison sees qualifying as a key part to his race weekend.

“Obviously with the number of riders on the grid it's going to be very busy out on track,” he explained. “The plan is to qualify well and if we can do that, I'm confident we can challenge for the team's and my first ever 'double' win.”

The 34-year-old rider sits third in the riders' standings after the season opener at Donington Park which represented a weekend full of highs and lows. The rider was forced to start race two from the pitlane after his Kawasaki ZX-10R suffered a dead battery just minutes before the call to the grid.

The GBmoto squad reacted like lightening to fix the problem but missed the grid call, meaning their rider would begin the race dead last. Ellison remained upbeat despite the problem after battling through the pack to finish inside the points in 12th.

“It was mega to get GBmoto and JG Speedfit's first ever BSB win at Donington Park last time out. It's just a shame we had a small technical problem ahead of the second race which put us to the back of the grid.

“It was one of those things no one could have predicted but taking positives from it, I was still matching the pace of the leaders and the team has made the battery more accessible so we can change it in a matter of seconds now.”

Good luck James - you deserve some success. Brands Indy circuit is just awful - like looking at flies going around in the bottom of a jam jar in my opinion.....Why the use this for a major championship is beyond me.
