Brands Hatch Indy: Michael Rutter joins Gearlink Kawasaki for Brands Hatch

Michael Rutter is set to race for Gearlink Kawasaki at Brands Hatch for the second round of the 2015 MCE British Superbike championship
Michael Rutter is set to return to the MCE British Superbike championship this weekend at Brands Hatch with the Gearlink Kawasaki team.

After unexpectedly parting with rider Joe Burns the Gearlink Kawasaki team hope to use Rutter's wealth of racing experience to improve its Kawasaki ZX-10R.

The multiple BSB race winner and four-time Isle of Man TT winner says he felt terrible not competing at Donington Park for the 2015 season opener and is delighted to secure a ride for this weekend.

"It feels good to be back this weekend, especially after being at Donington Park and not racing,” Rutter said. “I have raced in the championship for so long that it felt terrible not to be out at the first round.

“The opportunity came up with Gearlink Kawasaki and we know it is going to be hard work, but hopefully together we can move forward. I have my experiences from previous seasons that I hope will help - we are a small team but we want to move forward.

“I am a bit nervous as I haven't even ridden the bike yet and everyone else has testing and a round under their belts, but I am looking forward to being back out there."

Gearlink Kawasaki team manager Michael de Bidaph says he expects round two of the 2015 season to be a steep learning curve for the team and Rutter but he is confident progress can be made at Brands Hatch.

"After the totally unexpected decision by Joe Burns to leave the team at Donington Park, we are thrilled to announce that we will have Michael Rutter on board,” de Bidaph said.

Rutter has only been confirmed to race for Gearlink Kawasaki in round two at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit but de Bidaph is hopeful about extending their partnership.

“Michael and the team know that it will be extremely tough as he has not yet tested the bike. There will be total commitment from Michael, myself and the whole team. We very much look forward to working with Michael and hope that our association will continue throughout the 2015 season."

I'm a big fan of Gearlink, they're the kind of team that keep racing going. I'm thinking that this could be a good move because we know that the Kawa can be fast but hasn't shone in their hands so far and hopefully the experience and input from Michael Rutter will get the machine further up the grid. I always enjoy it when Gearlink do well anyway because you then have the added spectacle of watching Norma do her nut at the finish line!
