Ryuichi Kiyonari laments his Buildbase BMW is still missing a tenth of a second to his rivals after securing third on the grid for race one of round two of the MCE British Superbikes at Brands Hatch.

The three-time BSB champion had set the early pace around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, running quickest in FP1, but has struggled to find improvements in lap times which has seen him be caught by the chasing pack.

"This weekend I feel good, especially on Friday in free practice one with a good lap time," Kiyonar said. "It is difficult to improve my lap time and yesterday afternoon I tried some longer runs. Lap times were constant but not fast enough and this morning I tried the longer runs again which were a little bit quicker but hmm... I feel it was not enough."

Despite his lap time worries, the Japanese rider was still able to secure a front row spot behind pole sitter James Ellison and Jakub Smrz.

Kiyonari is looking to make amends for his miserable first round where he struggled into P14 in race one and crashed out in race two at Donington Park.

"Tomorrow I'll try to do my best and go faster than today," he said. "My main target is still to win but I need to finish after Donington Park being not very good. Anyway, I am happy with front row and will try to do my best tomorrow."
