For full BSB testing results from Oulton Park
Josh Brookes will be setting his sights on a first win for the new Yamaha R1 when the British Superbike Championship races at Oulton Park after going beneath the lap record during testing at the venue.
Partaking in an in-season test ahead of the third round around the Lancashire venue, Brookes was joined by most of his BSB rivals as attention turns to preparations for the upcoming May Bank Holiday event.
However, it was the Australian that would emerge as the pace setter on the Milwaukee-backed bike, his time of 1min 34.850secs coming in the third and final session of the day, enough to slice a massive half-second from the existing lap record.
Even so, it was a closely matched session for the top runners, with four riders each going below the previous marker, Shane Byrne stopping the clock just 0.041secs slower than Brookes, while Brands Hatch double winner James Ellison and Stuart Easton were also on the pace in third and fourth.
Tommy Bridewell rounded out the top five as Tyco BMW continue to unlock pace from the S1000RR, while Ryuichi Kiyonari in sixth place was the only rider not to set his best time in the third and final session of the day. Behind them, Peter Hickman, James Westmoreland and Jason O'Halloran rounded out the top ten.
Meanwhile, Be Wiser Kawasaki didn't participate in the test, while Christian Iddon and Dan Linfoot were also absent due to their respective leg and wrist injuries.
