James Ellison has set the fastest time of the weekend right at the death of the final free practice session ahead of Josh Brookes and Shane Byrne as the riders prepare for this afternoon's qualifying at Snetterton.

The MCE British Superbike championship leader notched up his fastest lap as the chequered flag fell on FP3, a 1m 47.477s, as he narrowly edged out Milwaukee Yamaha's Brookes by 0.033s. PBM Kawasaki rider Byrne, who had topped the Friday practice times, ended the session third after failing to better his FP2 time.

Byrne quickly picked up where he left off from Friday as he shot to the top of the timesheet in the opening stages of the session, while Josh Brookes stopped on track with a technical issue with his Milwaukee Yamaha R1.

In a largely uneventful middle chunk of the session the riders concentrated on race setup with the top trio of Ellison, Byrne and Brookes largely dominating.

As FP3 entered the final frantic ten minutes the field hunted outright pace ahead of qualifying with Brookes briefly going top with a 1m 47.5s until Ellison pushed him out of top spot with his final flying lap.

Further down the order Jason O'Halloran discovered some gains to finish the session in fourth with Tommy Bridewell on his Tyco BMW completing the top five.

The ever reliable Jakub Smrz continued his fine form over a single hot lap, finishing FP3 sixth as Anvil Hire TAG Racing Kawasaki's Filip Backlund made an unexpected jump up to seventh while Broc Parkes, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Luke Mossey rounded out the top ten.
