Snetterton 300: Bridewell 'uncomfortable' with Tyco BMW setup

Tommy Bridewell says he's been frustrated by his below-par start to the 2015 MCE British Superbike championship and is yet to get comfortable with the Tyco BMW machine.

Bridewell signed for Philip Neill's squad during off-season switching from Milwaukee Yamaha and has returned to racing a BMW S1000RR in BSB for the first time since 2012, after the Northern Irish-based team ended its 15-year partnership with Suzuki to join up with BMW Motorrad.

As a result, the team launched into its 2015 campaign with new machinery and a new rider in the shape of Bridewell and for the Wiltshire-born racer the transition period has been a turbulent experience.

“It's not going to plan anywhere near what I was expecting,” Bridewell said. “It's behind on settings and we are struggling to get the bike where it needs to be. I know the team is working as hard as it can but on such limited track time we don't get to change much.”

After grabbing an impressive victory in race one at Oulton Park, Bridewell hoped to maintain his momentum for the remainder of the season.

However, he was forced to skip last month's mid-season test at Snetterton as Tyco BMW switched its focus to its road racing campaign with William Dunlop and Guy Martin and the 26-year-old is now desperate to get more track time to fix its current problems.

Despite grabbing two top five finishes in round four at the Norfolk track this weekend, Bridewell still holds concerns about power delivery which has caused the bike to behave unpredictably, a motion his team-mate Michael Laverty has supported on the other side of the garage.

“At the minute I feel so uncomfortable on the bike I couldn't tell you whether I could go out and win or go out and struggle to get top ten,” he explained. “I feel so uncomfortable riding with the settings we have.

“It would be nice to go and have a test after this weekend to try to gain some lost time but we will have to see. I was hoping and expecting to come here after Oulton Park and be a lot stronger.

“Oulton is such a unique track and would be classed as much harder to set up a motorbike at and here [Snetterton] is so flat. There is no character to it. To be honest it seems that is where we are struggling. Tracks that have undulation with up and downs it feels like they are suiting the bike. We have a really good setting for that but not for a flatter track.

"All things considered it wasn't a bad result and we were not that far away from where we need to be in race two. I'm fifth in the championship which keeps me inside that all import top six, but the goal is to get back to where we were at Oulton when we won on the Tyco BMW.”

bernyec: idiot post whithead when he was last on the BMW it was a low cost budget team, with a stock motor and he put a lot of big names to shame then.
What do you think he on now, these bikes are not WSB,s
Why do you keep trying to make a point that is so clearly not valid? Do you know the sport at all or are you just one of these armchair warriors? Let me educate you, there's such thing as a bog stock standard engine, which you will get about 198 out of, teams that don't have the extra budget use these, then there's a tuned engine that will see about 220, the factory supported, and teams which have the budget will use these. If you need to know anything else, please shout wont you.
