Reigning MCE British Superbike champion Shane Byrne says he isn't too concerned about what his competition is doing and is purely focused on his own race weekend at Brands Hatch.

The four-time BSB title winner heads into rounds six with a 35-point cushion atop the riders' standings and has also earned himself a healthy helping of podiums points, taking 35 credits whilst the rider with the second most credits is fourth-place man James Ellison with 18.

With a handy advantage in the championship, thanks to his back-to-back double winners at Snetterton and Knockhill, the PBM Kawasaki rider says he can afford to concentrate on his own race and not worry too much about his rivals.

"Going into any race weekend I never really think about any other rider but myself until race day," Byrne said. "People ask all the time, who is going to be your main competition, maybe after warm up I will take a look at the sheets and think 'such and such has put together a bit of a run there so might be strong this weekend or whatever'.

"Focusing on anyone else isn't going to improve my situation so I tend to concentrate on me and being fast and consistent. We then get into the race on a Sunday and it's up to me then, to do my best and race whatever package I have underneath me to the best of my ability."

Naturally, Byrne is aiming for a repeat performance from the past two rounds but he thinks it won't be so straightforward at his home event. Earlier in the season around Brands Hatch's Indy circuit, the Kent-based rider grabbed two second place finishes behind Ellison and is once again expecting a tough battle at the front.

"It would be absolutely fantastic to come to Brands Hatch and do exactly the same as we have at Snetterton and Knockhill but if it works out like that is a completely different matter," he said. "There are going to be a lot of guys that are going to improve as the season goes on and there is some strong competition out there from some great riders and the pace is really fast this year."
